Not much to report really. I've been struggling, and eventually that seeps into your play. I made an abysmal call on the river -- a real muggins call to an overbet for value (me, 9-7, board 9944A).

On the plus side, I didn't go tiltastic, despite my phenomenal annoyance at myself for clicking the 'call' button before engaging my brain. Hell, it's a long time since I thought I ironed out that serious flaw.

Since then I've ground my way back to being slightly ahead (as in, er, six bucks) for the month. The games don't seem very good at the moment.

Here's a couple of hands:

Not sure why I took a note of this hand., except that it’s an example of when I think a CB on the flop is wrong. I can raise the turn if I have a read that opponent is laggy and might reraise all-in on a draw, but he was a relatively tight player. His lead on the turn could have been TPTK, two pair, a set or a flush. Although that puts me ahead of his range, the risk-reward is fairly awful if opponent has flush.

I think there’s a bigger argument for raising for value on the river, because oppoent’s bet just isn’t right for a flush. I probably elicit a call if in mini-raise, but for no more than that.

I have no interest in CBing AK on this kind of board. I have a draw, I could well be behind.

*** TURN *** [Q♡ J♣ 6♣] [T♣]

Good news is I hit a ten. Bad news is that it's a club.

ekko444: bets $5

Hero: calls $5

*** RIVER *** [Q♡ J♣ 6♣ T♣] [2♡]

ekko444: bets $10

ekko444: shows [J♠ Q♠] (two pair, Queens and Jacks)
Hero: shows [K♠ A♡] (a straight, Ten to Ace)
Hero collected $45.70 from pot

I'm experimenting with a range of strategies with AK, and varying those strategies dependent on position and stacks. I'm desperately trying to avopid a stereotypical way of playing the hand, but the general principle is, unless I hit very big or unless I can get small-stacked loose opponents all-in pre-flop, I try to keep the pot small. Perhaps next week I'll go back to a slightly more aggressive style.
