I'm running a bit bad at the moment. If you are playing at two levels and things are going well at the lower level and badly at the higher level, you are going to be losing money. It's as simple as that.

The worry that crosses my mind is that perhaps I have found such a profitable groove at $2-$4, having refined various habits so that they optimize profit at that level, that my natural play at $3-$6 is now less profitable or, horror of horrors, not profitable at all.

The only way round this is to play more $3-$6 and less $2-$4. So tonight I just two-tabled at $3-$6. This resulted in a pretty horrible time on Full Tilt as I accumulated my 100 points for the day.

A good general principle is that you are looking to win 40% of pots where you see the flop, so if I end up at two-for-nine, I can be happy that things were running badly, rather than I was playing like a dick. But that doesn't stop the $160 hole.

After that, a couple of shortish sessions on Party and Stars were uneventful (45 minutes on each), once again two-tabling and playing only $3-$6, got me rather more back into the zone of $3-$6 play. I was happy with one hand where I raised on the button with 66 (no previous callers) and, as expected, got called by the Norwegian in the Big blind.

Flop came AJT two diamonds and I had an idea where this hand was going.

He checked, I bet, he raised, I three-bet and he folded.

The temptation is to show the 66 here, but I like to keep or Norwegian friends guessing. That check-raise with an ace on the flop against a button raiser is probably one of his most powerful weapons.

At $2-$4, the default here would be that the check-raiser has a good hand. At $3-$6 it's much more marginal.

So, still $150 down on the day and a $400 drop from the peak for the month, but nothing to get too concerned about -- yet.

A couple of tough days at the gym tends to knacker me out, even though I feel better for it eventually (like, now, after an hour's sleep). Work is getting hard, and I'm looking forward to my break.

One thing that I had meant to mention was that a landmark of bohemian London, The Intrepid Fox in Wardour Street, has closed. This pub was home to death-metal nutters, Goths, long-hairs, and all those people who listened to music that never crosses my aural path. Spider tattoos, dirty denim jackets, white make-up, black-dyed hair and long black coats, tended to gather in this gloomy establishment, meeting fellow outcasts.

But, it's been bought by a chain, closed down, and will doubtless re-open as a clone-chain attracting the types who use all the other pubs/bars in Wardour Street. Sad.

When did I become sensible? Today I was eating a curious concoction of hot pork, cold curry, potato salad, sliced cucumber and cherry tomatoes, when I spilt a bit on my shirt. I noticed that this was a curry stain that could permanently mark the shirt, so I immediately took off my shirt and rubbed soap onto it with hot water. I mean, what kind of responsible behaviour is that? Time was, i'D WEAR THAT CURRY STAIN WITH PRIDE.

Jo liked my little cactus in the picture (notice too there were three or four others that I have grown from seed). Actually that cactus is now some eight years old. It's grown well and continues to be "lively".

However, is my interesting plant that I keep at work. Many kudos to anyone who can actually recognize the genus and home territory. Warning, it ain't easy.
