The thinnest of wedges
Mar. 25th, 2006 10:03 amI managed to avoid playing poker yesterday, not through the deliberate act of staying away from the tables when they are treating me horribly (although this might have been a factor), but because I just have too much to do these days. So I caught up with other things.
These included a decision that I wasn't eating correctly and that something needed to be done about it. So I loaded up on decent vegetables and made my own potato salad with home-made apple coleslaw. Very nice, but it all takes time.
And so I returned this morning to the horror that is Party for a rather-longer session than normal (it's hard to leave when you see players with 71% VPIP) or planned. Not that it did me any good. The current bad run can be measured as follows:
a) five days, or
b) 140 big bets, or
c) 25% of my winnings so far this year, or
d) 2,200 hands
e) $800.
Choose as you wish.
It makes you grateful for some things. (1) That I don't have to do this for a living, for which I am eternally thankful (sorry about that, Andy!) (2) That I avoided $5-$10 for the second half of this bad run (which is not, of course, necessarily over yet).
You really get to hate poker, all the other people at the table, and much of the known universe when you hit these kind of runs. Because, well, you have to externalise it somehow. It's worse in the long run if you bottle it up.
++++
Anyway, I played too long this morning, so I'm behind again. I haven't even read the Financial Times yet. Back later.
