So, the relatively last-minute plan was to go to the half-price ticket booth in Leicester Square and buy tickets for Embers, a play featuring Jeremy Irons and Patrick Malahide. I knew that the play had been available at the half-price booth and, sure enough, it was there. Unfortunately, there wasn't a ticket available after I had queued up, and it's impossible to see what is available from the booth itself. At this point Partner-in-Crime said "Rat Pack?" and man in booth said "yes, that's quite good".

Well, quite good it might be, but it wasn't Embers and it wasn't an Embers crowd. This was the kind of crowd that still worshipped the ground on which Elvis walked. For them, The Beatles never happened, let alone punk.

All that said, it was quite a pleasant re-enactment of the Rat Pack show in Vegas in 1960 or threabouts, including the very politically incorrect ethnic jokes about Sammy Davis Jr (which, I suspect, would not have been left in for a US version).

So, that makes two false starts in the attempt to see Embers. I can see that I'm going to end up going to see this on-my-own by-myself.

Saw Gnarls Barkley on Later With Jools on Friday night. Bloody good live performer.

The central heating has packed up. Although the combi boiler heats up the water as per usual, and the flames fire up when I "tweak" the thermostat to make the boiler think that the radiators need heating, after about 30 seconds the boiler starts making horrible clunking sounds and shuts itself back off. My non-existent technical knowledge leads me to suspect some kind of air-blockage in the boiler. But, even if this is the case, I have no idea how to fix it. Phone call to plumber tomorrow I suspect.

Christ I'm behind with my work. Rush rush rush.
