It was nice to get back to a normal newsletter producing day. Without all of the other hassles, I managed to generate 16 stories and I still had about nine or 10 more that I could have written. I'll plod through those tomorrow as the Monte Carlo stuff tapers off.

The weather couldn't decide what to do today. It was glorious this morning, and then clouded over a little bit. Storms were forecast for later in the evening (they didn't materialize) so I went to Monoprix at 4pm, only for there to be spits of rain. It didn't amount to anything, and this evening the sun was out.

An unimpressive evening meal in the Buffalo Grill, saved only by the fact that steak and cips with a cola and a coffee came to only 20 euros, service compris. The food was unremarkable and the service was sub-standard. Likeable enough, but not that competent.

Waiting staff get paid well in France, and it's a profession, not a short-stop before you make it big in the movies (see Los Angeles) or just "something to do" while you spend a couple of years thinking about your life (see Las Vegas). As a result, you expect the staff to be professionals (because they usually are). Coming up against enthusiastic amateurs just doesn't cut the mustard.

But, another lovely day in paradise. Could I get used to this? Absolutely. Of course, working with one laptop screen rather than four monitors and two computers (which is what I have at home) is a bit of a drawback, and I suspect this dining table chair would piss me off after a week or two. And I miss my De Longhi coffeemaker! But the walk in the evening makes up for all of that.
