Quite an impressive Sunday for Reading, given its traditional emphasis on the rockier side of popular music on this day. The NME tent churned out Conor Oberst -- not a player likely to follow The Subways (and other bands) in doing some kind of holiday camp "which side can shout louder" routine. Tenacious D risked running the "Bad News Tour" cascade of bottles and beer cans (unless they have been banned from the audience now), since they effectively take the piss out of the whole business. In this case they were saved by good musicianship, I suspect, although I think that Jack Black ran things close at a couple of points.
The Rascals were impressive -- you can see who has the most influence on the style of The Last Shadow Puppets (also on later), and it ain't Alex Turner.
Watching the audience (particularly the "circle creators") I sadly found myself thinking "that's one hell of a lot of excess testosterone that these boys are burning off" and wondering what an anthropologist would make of such behaviour in tribes in the Amazon rain forest, let alone sfrom ons of Weybridge-based accountants who hope to study English and French at Durham next year.

Sometimes you can be fairly sure that you have neat tenants, just by a glimpse at what is going on in the garden....

Every so often I get dragged into wasting an hour of my life that I can't really afford by reading a massively long 2+2 thread -- in this case, the one on the guy who took out a number of prop bets ($20K's worth to win $40K, to be precise) that he could win $10K in a month playing exclusively at $25NL.
He failed, and admitted three reasons.
1) He underestimated the extent to which opponents would adapt to his play (he was 24-tabling, so they got a good look at him)
2) He underestimated the nittiness of day-time games (he should have been reading this blog!)
3) He underestimated the strain that it would impose on him.
However, tucked away in the 300+page thread was this classic jpg --- if you wannt the briefest summary of what life is like in NL land, this is just about the nuts. Just move stuff left and right according to the time and day and the day of the week...
