Who needs West Baltimore?
Oct. 17th, 2008 11:53 amA short walk from where I work is a junction where Kingsland Road, Hackney Road, Old Street and Shorefitch High Street meet. South of here and you are fairly much heading into the City -- north of it and you are in a different land.
Hackney Road has pretensions to gentrification. You will read many articles on the new live-work spaces and how artists are all moving to what will become the new Left Bank. And, as you walk up Hackney Road, a shop on the right appears to confirm this rose-tinted view.

But this is a false dawn. Here's the other side of the road.
