My Life Story
May. 8th, 2009 12:04 pmLast year I failed to buy tickets for the James concert in December while they were still available. I regret missing this opportunity, so this year, with another 1990s classic band performing in London, I was determined not to miss out.
In addition, it could actually be a genuine example of often over-hyped phrase "unique event".
Yes, My Life Story, Jake Shillingford proprietor, will be playing at Koko on November 26. I bought two tickets because, well, you never know. As someone who likes planning ahead, I hate not knowing what's going to happen, so, well, best lay contingency plans....
Some interesting facts about this reunion. When Shillingford announced it in March, he said that "actually, there are some people in the band that do not know this information. I haven't had a chance to phone everyone yet".
This is not as unusual as it sounds. Unlike miser Van Morrisson, who a few years ago tried to get away with a Royal Albert Hall Concert backed by three musicians, My Life Story usually had about 12 or 13 members and "only dipped into single figures in the late 1990s". They split in 2001, one of those "nearly bands" of the Brit Pop scene who deserved to be as big as James, Pulp and Blur.
It's also sweet that they will be performing all of Mornington Crescent at Koko which is, well, next to Mornington Crescent.
The band will be performing bundles of 19990s stuff and, to quote Shillingford "no new material". It will also be "a celebration of 1993/94 BritPop", with, he claims, some other names from the day.
Looking forward to it already.
