I think it's more of a category error. It's an extremely unattractive variant, as far as I can see, because it completely trashes any line of thought that leads you to the "share the pot, proportionately" stage.
To put it another way, if you've worked a perfectly sensible line based on perfectly sensible judgement and a reasonable approximation of opponents' range and a fair understanding of the way their stacks and your stack affect the odds and a good few guesses on the side pots, if any, and some idiot comes up and says:
Game over, boys! I've got an overpair on the turn! Let's stop betting right now, because I don't feel like risking a possible flush draw on the river. We'll just share what we've got...
Hell, I might be totally ignorant about poker, but this is a seriously unattractive proposition.
