Sunny and tired

peterbirksWell, here we are. The first questionmust be; is upper class worth it?
On the plus side, you get the waiting room, you get on first, you get off first, and you have a very relaxing flight. On the down side, premium economy actually got off before upper class, and their luggage was unloaded first. Looking at the seats, premium economy looks slightly better value if you are going to stay awake, but if you are sleeping overnight, the new bed/seats in upper class are, well, Ace.
I popped into the Flamingo to say hello to some people, sat down in the 2-4 and promptly got two red Aces. I raised, and the flop came KQ8 of spades. Needless to say a spade came on the turn and I was beaten by Q9 offsuit with the nine of spades. Excellent, I thought.
Luckily things progressed well after that. I walked out after a couple of hours about $17 to the good, and acclimatized. I went back to the room, unpacked and slept.
I then got a game of 4-8 with a half-kill at the MGM. This was more like it. $300 profit in four hours. Some very weak players. Popped back to the Flamingo to say hello to the graveyard shift and sat in on an excruciating game with a drunk throwing away his money. But, to be honest, it wasn't worth it.
Interesting tale in the MGM from a guy who dealt in the cash games at the WSOP. An Englishman whom he did not know the name of was playing in the $25-$50 Omaha 8orB with a half kill. He won a couple of pots on the spin, and got up to leave without posting. Massive argument ensues. Net result was the floor manager telling that, yes, he was in his rights to leave, but that if he did so without leaving his $75, he'd be barred from any WSOP tournaments that year. Englishman walks from cage after leaving $100. "Take the rest as tip", he said.

Date: 2005-12-06 05:41 pm (UTC)A more accurate assessment (since time is in short supply) would be a $9,000 holiday compared with a $4,500 holiday. That's quite a difference. But in terms of, say, better hotels here (say, like three weeks in the Venetian) would cost the same, but would be less positive in terms of benefits.
