A Limit Hand
Jan. 29th, 2006 09:36 pmI’ve been taking this stuff seriously. I actually read some stuff on 2+2. Anyway, it would appear that players are claiming a loss rate in the small blind and big blind of 0.11 of a big bet in the small blind and 0.18 of a big bet in the big blind.
I’ve long known that blind play is one of my weaker areas, so I’ve decided to defend more and raise more. There is a natural tendency to “overshoot”, I know, and perhaps I did here. But, it worked. Anyway, I rock and you suck, so here it is.
$3/$6 Texas Hold’em
Seat 1: jackmiller ( $92.50 )
Seat 2: jeremy7676 ( $269.50 )
Seat 3: digger5151 ( $73 )
Seat 4: esgaroff ( $185.50 )
Seat 5: JrDelta ( $91.50 )
Seat 8: tigertony91 ( $151.50 )
Seat 6 (Button): cjadtb ( $101 )
Seat 7 (Small Blind): Birks ( $213.50 )
Seat 9 (Big Blind): Kingdewey ( $229.50 )
Seat 10: Maci_ ( $210.50 )
Dealt to Birks: Q♠ T♥
Kingdewey folds.
Maci_ folds.
jackmiller folds.
jeremy7676 folds.
digger5151 calls [$3].
esgaroff folds.
JrDelta folds.
cjadtb folds.
Birks raises [$5].
tigertony91 folds.
digger5151 calls [$3].
The basic driver behind the raise with this pile of shite (apart from the fact that I was itching to be more aggressive in the blinds) was that the limper was definitely loose-passive and the big blind was weak-tight. I would rather take the offensive here against one opponent than limp in to face two.
Dealing Flop [Q♥, 4♣, K♠ ]
Birks bets [$3].
digger5151 calls [$3].
Dealing Turn [ 5♣ ]
Birks bets [$6].
digger5151 calls [$6].
Dealing River [ K♥ ]
Now I have a decision. Checking is easy, but surely a bet for value makes sense here. Even a loose-passive player is likely to raise me with a King either on the flop or the turn. And if he has a small pair, I might well get a call out of this guy.
Birks bets [$6].
digger5151 calls [$6].
Birks shows [ Q♠, T♥ ] two pairs, kings and queens.
digger5151 doesn't show [ 4♦, 9♦ ] two pairs, kings and fours.
Birks wins $43 from the main pot with two pairs, kings and queens.
Woo hoo. I rock.
I think that I shall have to look out for more of these opportunities. The difficult part will come when I get three-bet by the big blind, or when the limper plays back at me on the flop. Should I always continue on the turn if I miss the flop, bet and get called? And so on. Interesting times ahead.
