A PLO hand

I'm sitting in the front room. I put in an hour on Party in the office next door (quite profitable, thanks) and thought I would categorize the Friday BBC2 Glastonbury stuff (as yet unseen). All rather fragmented, apart from an interminable White Stripes set. I'm afraid that the appeal of this band has always passed me by, on the not inconsiderable grounds (for a duo) that one of the pair cannot sing and cannot play the drums.

Anyway, after clearing $500 on Party, I reckoned I could afford one or two hands going wrong at small-stakes PLO, on the laptop wireless connection. And, lo and behold, the poker gods didn't disappoint. This is what I want, bad breaks at 25c-50c, good breaks at high-stakes limit :-)

The button is at seat 7.

Birks posts the small blind of $.25.
Z Money posts the big blind of $.50.

Birks: Ks Kc 5d 7c

mapache calls. spooger23 calls. hud20 calls. ace3232 calls. MQduck calls. Birks calls. Z Money checks.

Flop 4c Kd 7s

I don't really want to bet out here. I think I can tempt a bet from a straight draw, if it exists. Given the rainbow board, I reckon that I am a big favourite. I plan to reraise.

Birks checks. Z Money checks. mapache checks. spooger23 bets $3.50. hud20 folds. ace3232 folds. MQduck calls. Birks raises to $17.50. Z Money folds. mapache folds. spooger23 goes all-in for $9.50. MQduck folds. Birks is returned $8(uncalled).

So far so good. I've got the short stack all-in. I'm favourite, and I've got $3.50 for free off the big stack.

Turn 4c Kd 7s 3d Uh-oh. Trouble, methinks.

River 4c Kd 7s 3d 8h

Showdown:

Birks shows Ks Kc 5d 7c.
Birks has Ks Kc Kd 7s 8h: three kings.
spooger23 shows 5c 5h 6d Td.
spooger23 has 5c 6d 4c 7s 8h: straight, eight high.
$1.30 is raked from a pot of $26.
spooger23 wins $24.70 with straight, eight high.

So it goes. I got him all-in with 26% equity, whereas I am getting $15.20 to $9.50 (7-to-4) on a 1-to-3 shot. I'll take those every day of the week.

And I got it back later, but that's enough for now.
