When Sunday Comes
Feb. 3rd, 2006 11:00 pmTwo football posts on the spin. What next?
Actually, this might be more linked to the Sunday press's "in the public interest" hypocrisy. If the rumours are correct and Sol's vanishment on Wednesday was the result of being confronted with what was going to be "revealed" on Sunday, then I think the man deserves all our sympathy and the relevant journalists and editor should be strung up (preferably by the balls, unless this particular editor is female, in which case I would settle for something more modest, along the lines of tarring and feathering) before they can come up with whatever homilies they are doubtless already preparing about Sol being a "public figure" whom "youngsters look up to".
Even though I do not accept that any person's sexual orientation (or whether or not they pay for sex) is a matter of relevancy to their competence in carrying out public duties (and neither do I accept that those people denying it is evidence that they are unfit for public service -- hell, what would you do in their position?), you could, perhaps, if seeing through very tinted glasses on a particularly bright day, understand why an editor might believe that, in the case of a politician, the editor was "protecting the public interest".
But in the case of a footballer? Nope, Sorry, there's no excuse that the newspaper can come up with, no way that they can slant it. It's shite, solely designed to line the pockets of the editor, proprietor and investors. I think that the ABI should make a public protest that, if this is what is needed to push up a company's share price, then they want nothing to do with it.
Then again, perhaps Sol has just flown off for a couple of days' golf in the Canaries and it will all turn out to be nothing.
++++
Running bad in Ultimate (and Party) at the moment, with Aces having a nasty tendency to be cracked all of a sudden.
For some reason, I just can't beat the 3-6 game on UB, and, worse, I can't really see why. I pull back from it, build up a stake, slaughter the 2-4, move in on 3-6 again, and comprehensively do my bollocks. Looking at Pokertracker, it's actually only a negative $60 after 3,600 hands, (0.28BB/00), which I probably more than earnt back in deposit bonus. Strange, it felt worse.
Still resisting the temptation to update the monthly spreadsheets, but even I can work out that I am down.
