I said that I would do a piece on equity calculation, but now I can’t find the tournament equity calculator (used mainly for sit’n’goes, but useful in other spots). It used to be at the ICM site bol/something/edu. Anyone else know of an online resource for calculating tournament equity, at least roughly? Or do I have to write the darned thing myself?
Anyhoo, it’s not that important for this exercise.
The Party $1500 freerolls have the oddest of prize structures. If there are 500 runners, 41st to 60th pays $6. Then 31st to 40th pays $7.50, and so on in small increments up to 16th to 19th. Which pays $11.40. The first increment greater than the jump from 61st to 60th comes in at about 10th to 9th, I think.
Now, let’s take a typical situation if you find yourself short-stacked with 61 players left. First, this isn’t like 11th to 10th. There are seven active tables rather than two, and all of these tables are full-ring. This means that the time you will have to wait to get to 60th is very unlikely to be a full round.
You have 4,000 in chips after posting your blind and ante
The blinds are 800/1600 with a 25 ante
You pick up AKs in the big blind.
It goes round to the small blind, an aggressive player with lots of chips, who raises all in.
