It's been a bit of a dry year for the "oh yes, I know him" comments in the WSOP. Andy Ward has been posting some blinding commentaries, but has also in the process failed to make any final tables. None of the other British invaders seem to have fared that well either — certainly not the people with whom I am familar, although I vaguely recall that John Kabbaj did quite well in one tourney.

So it was almost with some relief that I read of Katja Thater winning the Razz tournament and Terrence Chan coming second in the short-handed No Limit.

I've transferred my St Martin's pictures to the computer and reduced them in size, ready for uploading, so I'll try to make that post this evening.

I see that the UK monetary policy committee voted by only five to four last month to keep interest rates on hold. That was quite enough to boost the pound. Carry trades are back in vogue (just ask the New Zealand Treasury about that) with retail investors in Japan now accounting for about 20% of the forex market (and much of thei money is being invested in New Zealand bonds). Retail players in the forex market? That's like donks in WSOP tournaments. With the professionals, you can have some ide how they will react. With the amateurs, who the hell knows? Dangerous times, and I am staying away from any forex positions for the moment.

Last night I found myself in the farcical situation (for someone who does't watch much TV and does not have the time so to do anyway), of wanting to record four programmes simultaneously. It required reconnecting a few plugs and sockets and aerials, but I managed it.
