Jul. 8th, 2007 03:15 pmRead this excerpt from gsqwared's commentary on PokerNews and tell me whether you agree with the use of the phrase "dodged a bullet".
OK, it's all written very rushed; of that I am aware. But would the "rushed" writing have been the same if Cernuto had had the Jacks and the opponent had had the eights?
"Opponent of Cernuto dodges bullet". Hmm, I think not.
But, on the plus side for PokerNews, a great interview with Bobby Baldwin, including such lines as, when talking about the big guys playing each other in Bobby's Room, said that a lot of it was ego rather than money. "I have a little bit of cash" said the CEO of the major MGM Mirage project in Las Vegas. Quite.
Also a plus for Pauly, who rightly praised Eric Seidel's 8th bracelet and observed that, because Seidel is not a big mouth, a self-publicist or a self-agrandizer, the award of the bracelet received virtually no media attention from the johnny-come-lately's ("Eric who? Oh, the guy who Johnny Chan pwned in Rounders...."). Imagine how many of these media-bees would have been there if Matusow had won it. And, of course, imagine is what you will have to do, because it isn't happening in reality.
Bobby Baldwin observed that Chip Reese was probably the best all-round player in the world, but the Reeses, the Seidels, even the Baldwins (who miraculously mixes a high-level job with high-level poker, not something many other people in the world can manage), get very little attention.

"Miami" John Survives Disaster
"Miami" John Cernuto dodged a major bullet after getting all of his money into the pot preflop holding pocket eights against an opponent's pocket jacks.
As grim as things looked preflop, however, the flop came Th 8h 4c , which gave Cernuto new life. "Miami" John ended up making a full boat on the river and survived to see another flop.
After the hand, Cernuto stacked up 26,300 in chips.
