How Green Was My Chalet
Mar. 23rd, 2008 07:29 pmThere's a programme on The History Channel tonight in the UK called Life After People, a much-needed riposte to the greed espoused by typical "greens".
As I pointed out to Andy once, the line "Save The Planet" is a misnomer. What it means is "Save humanity", which strikes me as a contradictory attitude for people who claim to be animal lovers.
Now, real planet lovers and animal lovers, such as, er, me, reckon that we should trundle headfirst down the humanity destruction route, before we get the chance to genuinely fuck up the planet for animalkind.
"Life After People" postulates just such an ideal scenario. Nature would reclaim the world fairly quickly if humanity got its act together and either wiped itself out or emigrtated en masse to the stars. In places where humanity has screwed up so badly that we can't (or are unwilling to) live there (e.g., Chernobyl) wildlife is recovering. Red deer and wild boar once again roam.
So, my campaign theme is this. Pollute away. Kill humanity off. That, in even the relatively short run (in biological terms) will be best for the planet and best for every other species than us.
