Degrees of Persuasion
Nov. 18th, 2008 11:33 amMy Tesco sells fresh pasta at a reasonable price. I particularly used to enjoy its tagliatelle, plain and flavoured versions, which was far superior to the dried stuff.
However, fresh tagliatelle needs to be stored at about 5 degrees centigrade. It won't last forever when stored at that temperature, and the stuff can just about cope with being stored at 4 degrees, three degrees and perhaps, at an absolute pinch, two degrees.
What it can't cope with is being stored at one degree centigrade. The bottom solidifies. It semi-freezes.
I mentioned this to a storeperson supervisor one day, holding a rock-like formation of "fresh" tagliatelle in my hand and dropping it to the ground with a resounding 'thud', before pointing out that fresh tagliatelle would not make that noise. He agreed and turned up the thermostat to three degrees.
Obviously, the next time I returned, some bright spark had lowered it again to one degree, rendering the tagliatelle inedible, again.
So, does anyone know any supermarket that sells fresh pasta at a reasonable temperature?

And, speaking of Tesco, my branch has finally stopped displaying plastic bags. You have to ask the cashier for them. This is just about enough to persuade me to get reusable bags (just as the progressive banning of smoking in various public places was enough to get me to quit), although I shall probably buy something other than what Tesco has to offer.

Dreadful night's sleep last night, despite no nap in the afternoon. I set my radio to switch off after 30 minutes, at 12 midnight, and again for 12.30am, and again for 1am, and again for 1.30am. I think that was when I finally managed to doze off. That might be a normal night's four hours' kip for the likes of Geoff Brown and Geoff Challinger, but it ain't enough for the Birks.
After submitting a withdrawal to Party on Nov 2nd, and two Neteller withdrawal requests last Thursday, it was a bit pissy yesterday to have seen no sign of any of them. But the Party cheque turned up for when I got home, and the Pacific withdrawal appeared in the Neteller account this morning. So, just the Betfred one awaited. Is it a coincidence, d'you think, that this was the one where the transfer request was for the entire balance?
