Many rivers to cross
Apr. 6th, 2009 02:40 pmOr, in the words of Jimmy Cliff, "But I travel Alone". I closed out my long position on sterling this morning, there having been an eight-cent gain over the past week and a bit. Unfortunately I only got 2.5 cents of this, because I endured a rollar-coaster ride on the way to my profit. I'm still short Barclays, hoping against hope that the AIG ruling in the US last week will come back to bite them.
The desk move at work could have been more satisfactory. The desk I have been moved to is 20% smaller (banks of five rather than four), and I suspect it will get v hot in the summer. Not overly happy with things, TBH, LDO, FTL.
+++++++++++
After a minor $18k last Sunday, I performed a near-repeat performance in the UK and Ireland Pokerstars poker league with a fourth place for, er, nine bucks. There's a not very competitive league that pays 100 places (last night's tourney had 87 entries, and during the week it can fall down to something in the 50s) with $300 first prize at the end of the month down to $5 for 100th. It's a fairly easy $30 (I mean, just turn up and don't play a hand) if you lash out your 25 frequent player points every night.
The overlay in the 10FPP super-satellite to the Monte Carlo Final must have been one of the biggest ever offered by Stars. I can't remember what an FPP on Stars is worth in exchange value, but it can't be much more than half a cent? So the entry is 5 cents equivalence. 27 players qualify and they were getting about 300 entrants, or about 60 cents per player.
The final has about 800 runners and $23K in prize money, or about $2.90 per player. So that's a 400% overlay even if your expectation is average. But this doesn't allow for how weak the fields are. I had about a 50% qualifier rate in the first part, which turned it into a 2,600% overlay. You don't see those many days of the week.
++++++++
The "lo-carb" diet is progressing okay, with a few cracks in the willpower for some toast. But I've steered clear of the chocolate biscuits (indeed, any chocolate) for a whole weekend, despite being sorely tempted more than once.
Had a salad for lunch and will be going for steak and eggs tonight. Bundles to do, though. Darned ironing.
