Swonginess
Apr. 17th, 2009 09:17 amThe downswing continues, with a (short) session this morning seeing a flopped flush losing to another flopped flush (stack-off absolutely inevitable the way the cards came -- an Ace on the turn following my pre-flop raise gave him a wider range to me and me a wider range to him), and, two hands later on another table, a set under set. Impressively (to me, anyway), I avoided getting stacked off on that one. Opponent's style was such that I knew I might be losing, and a scare card on the end (AKT now on board and QJ quite possibly one of my holdings as far as conservative opponent is concerned) saved me fifty bucks.
So, it will be a miracle to get back to evens for the month, and this is officially the worst downswong since October 2006, and far more rapid. But the above hands show the kind of thing I've been facing. Neither of the above is reflected in the all-in EV chart, but, just for good measure, my $300 loss on Party this month equates to a $200 profit in Sklansky all-in dollars.
Oh, and I got seven-outered on the river early in a tourney last night as I went for my early-hand double-up. Suckered AK all in on turn against my AT on board of ATQx. Jack duly arrived on fifth street.....
On the plus side (or perhaps it isn't a plus?) my performance at non-showdown in cash games has improved to break-even on an operational ongoing basis (i.e., the line has flattened out this month but is still negative for the year as a whole). The trouble is, the performance at showdown is far worse than it was. So perhaps the improvement on non-showdowns is just a sign of me not being paid off so much. The aim (at full ring) is to get both lines moving upwards in tandem, I reckon. I suspect that I need to make a few more third barrel bluffs against the kind of opponent capable of laying down his hand.
Let's just hope that all this bad run comes to a sudden halt when I sit down in Monte Carlo.

Minor plusses. The braces come off the teeth today! It's been a long long road and I'm not sure that I would undergo it again. Having a bunch of metal in your mouth affects (a) eating and (b) kissing, both topics close to my heart.
++++++++++
I'm doing my bollocks on Barclays, no word yet from Stars on details for the Monte Carlo trip (well, San Remo is still taking place, so I'll cut them some slack), so I have to turn to my physically held stocks for some cheering up! At least I've got three grand out of them over the past couple of months. Even if it is a fools' rally, it's a nice straw of comfort to clutch onto.
