An enjoyable Saturday afternoon/evening. Had a stroll round Hanover Square's Poker In The Park. A quick chat with the good Doctor Channing, followed by a bite at Carluccio's with David Young. Then on to the Loose Cannon for the Roy Houghton testimonial – an £80 freezeout, of which £20 went to Roy.
As Dom Sutton observed, it was fitting that the freezeout should turn into a rebuy with an add-on 10 minutes before the end of the third level!
Never really got going in the tournament, with nothing of interest for the first two levels (just trod water), a couple of reshoves with AJs and 88 after level 4 pushed me down to 20bb. Neither got called. And then, by level 5, a 6BB shove on the button with KQo, only to get a lightning call from Nick van de Weyer with AQo. Clearly I was a minor favourite, but I failed to hit my King or make a straight. Fixed, I tell you. :-)
But it was great to see a large number of old friends from years gone by. John Minson was taking pictures. Stevie Bennett turned up, Jimmy (now dealing at the International)and so on. 55 runners.
Got the night bus home without any trouble, so it didn't blast me out too much for the Sunday, either.
