Dead lift of 130kg today (286lb, 20st 6lb). Felt I might be able to do more, but PT Nick decided enough was enough, given that it was 22.5kg above my previous personal best. Am now targeting 155kg by end of the year.
Well, the 107.5kg was the PB prior to today. Today we did 60kg warm-up, 80kg prep, 100kg prep, then straight to one of 120kg (felt relatively easy) and then one of 130kg, where PT Nick thought I was leaning too far back on the lift, but I felt absolutely spot on, with no single part of the "chain" (from feet up to shoulders) feeling as if it was the weakest link. I really did think I could have done 135kg for sure and possibly 140kg, but I'm prepared to take the boss's word on these things.
Put in a rather sad performance on the rowing machine today, running out of puff after 3200 metres and thus only recording a 17.47 for 4km (I'd been on track for another 17.35 or thereabouts).
Did some quadriceps and hamstring work, and then 15 mins on the cross-trainer, but I felt really weary, despite a couple of bananas in the hour preceding the work-out. Also felt some soreness/tiredness in the trapezium muscles, beneath shoulder blades and near spine. Interesting that the PB lift should affect here rather than the knees, quads or inner back muscles (erectus spinae?) and/or the latissimus dorsi.
Going for 3 attempts (like in a lifting meet, I'm told) worked for me.
Attempt 1: something sensible around or below previous PR Attempt 2+3: step up.
Sounds like that's what you did. Remember that if you made 140(say) and only matched it next time, that would suck. Now, you probably have an easy 10kg PR in the tank.
My PR is probably 40kg more than I can lift ATM, and that's HUGELY demotivating.
