I played like a dipshit this morning. Becaise I took a nap Sunday afternoon and went to bed (relatively) early, I woke up about 3.30am/ Instead of doing what I should have done, and turning over in an attempt to go back to sleep, I got up and put in an hour at the table. You know that you are not on form when, while I was typing in my table stake at table two while posting on table one, I got in for free with Kh 7h. Flop came 9d 6h 4s. I pay no attention and clicked check-fold. Then the table beeps at me to make a decision to an opponent’s bet, so I fold. Whoops, card had appeared without me seeing it and I had folded to the turn bet. The turn card was, of course, the six of hearts. That just about gave me odds to call $4 into a $12 pot (15 outs). The river, needless to say, was a three, and I would have won a small pot.

Eventually it was another one of those multi-wayers that did me. I have an uncanny knack for making wrong decisions here, perhaps based on my assumption that my opponents are not complete morons. But, at this time of the morning, and at these stakes, it would appear that they are.

Entertaining already, huh?

Dealing down cards

Dealt to Birks [ Qc Tc ]

Ahh shit, I hate this kind of hand. Two posters behind me and I have a multi-wayer where I can see myself getting shafted all-ends up. Should I raise? Unlikely to get the posters behind me out. No, I’ll just limp.

Dealing Flop [ Ah, Kh, Jc ]

Woo hoo! A flopped straight. Anything but a heart and I reckon I am pissing this.

Moneybags985 checks.
OGRAMMY bets [$2].

Ogrammy is a competent player. He definitely has a hand here. My guess would be Ace-small to test the water.

Birks raises [$4].

I see little point for any kind of slow play. The pot is big enough to want to win. I want the people behind me out.

I know little about fannd1955. Moneybags is loose-passive. He may well be on a chase with a non-nut heart and a gutshot.

Dealing Turn [ 8h ]

Moneybags985 bets [$4].
OGRAMMY calls [$4].

SHIT SHIT SHIT. Moneybags is loose-passive, but he tends to have a hand when he bets. I really feel that he has something here. Trip 8s? Hit nut flush? No matter, I’ll just call it down to the end.

Birks calls [$4].
fannd1955 raises [$8].

OGRAMMY calls [$4].

Jesus. Now I’m baffled. Moneybags bets (so he has a hand) but then just calls the raise (so he isn’t that happy about it). Trip 8s seems the likeliest to me. And what about fannd’s raise? Surely that’s a flush? Only Ogrammy’s flat-call makes the most sense. He probably has either QT like me or two pairs (AJ or KJ). This is a horrible situation. I could be drawing dead and entering real trouble on the river. If I’m in now, I’m in. Hell, I’m out.

Birks folds.

Dealing River [ 7c ]

Moneybags985 folds.

fannd1955 shows [ 8s, Ad ] two pairs, aces and eights.

OGRAMMY doesn't show [ Kd, Js ] two pairs, kings and jacks.
fannd1955 wins $62 from the main pot with two pairs, aces and eights.

Bollox, bollox, bollox. Only one thing to worry about now. Avoid tilt.

I played this like an utter cunt from start to finish. I should have raised pre-flop. Then I should have called on the turn (because there is no possible action behind me — it’s harder if there is another player still to act).

++++++++++++++

Anyway, after I had spunked away about 12 big bets in reality and probably not many fewer in expected value, I was getting close to tiltastic. A shit-head at the other table was continually outdrawing me with crap. Then this happened.

Now, when two of your opponents are called h00ter and Bling, you can be fairly sure that you are not sitting at a table with the sharpest knives anywhere but left in the kitchen drawer.

Well, I’ve established strength. Unfortunately, so has tartar. And what is Cutthroat (not a nutter) doing calling $6 cold? Is he drunk?

Dealing Flop [ 8h, 8d, 5h ]

tartar22 bets [$2].
Birks raises [$4].

The key play. Let’s assume that tartar is pushing AK-suited (not hearts) and that cutthroat has called with a biggish but not enormous pair (although he could be AK as well). My raise at this point broadcasts loud and clear to $2-$4 players that I have a big pair. Of course, at $15-$30, the pair of nines behind me would say, “yeah, right” and would pop it back at me. But, here...

Dealing Turn [ 3d ]

End of story

Birks does not show cards.
Birks wins $37.50

So, I pushed off one hand that was beating me (a medium-big pair, nines to Jacks) and one hand that was tying with me (AK suited). If I’d played the QT suited (where I actuallyk had a fucking hand!) with the same conviction, I would have won the pot.

That got me back to $26 down. Given that Party had, for reasons I really can't establish, decided to deposit $10 in my account, despite the fact that I've already clocked up about 4,500 hands there in the past two weeks and my account is not under any threat of approaching zero, and I was only $16 down on the hour -- a right result, to be honest.

Paul Phillips is posting at length about his Scrabble escapades against top-flight players (ahh, I remember when I used to take Scrabble seriously, but they seem much better players now). Paul types the following near the end of his epic recollection..

Try to find a bingo in ADDOS??.

That the word "Saddoes" was the first which occurred to me was, of course, utterly coincidental...
