I hate Friday nights
Feb. 19th, 2005 11:49 amWhy do I get up early on Saturday morning to exploit the late-night players in the US? Because my record over the past year during these loose-fests is abysmal. I thought that I had cracked the major part of the problem when I religiously followed the principle of "just because they are loose callers, it doesn't mean that they are loose bettors", and this certainly seems to have got rid of the 50BB losses that I was suffering what seemed like once a month. But beating these games just seems beyond me.
What is weird is that you get similar-type games at other times of the week (particularly on Party), and I have no trouble with these; it's just the Friday night/Saturday morning games that I can't beat.
Perhaps I do better against tight-passive players -- the kind you find in abundance at 2-4 and 3-6 on Stars and Paradise -- than I do against the "loosies" who seem impossible to read. Once a player gets a little bit of competence, he is soooo much easier to beat.
I always return to Feeney's Inside The Poker Mind or John Fox when it gets me down. And it does seem that at the end of the month I am winning more than I was a few months ago. So why does it feel as if I am running bad?
