Helpful governments
Oct. 4th, 2005 07:25 amBloomberg headline this morning:
"Government warns Australians not to travel to Bali after terrorist bombings"
My immediate thought was. "Hmm, perhaps a warning to them not to travel before the terrorist bombings would be more useful".
Anyway, I clicked on the link and, lo and behold, the headline had changed to:
"Australia Upgrades Travel Warning for Bali After Bombings"
So, clearly there was a vaguely competent sub-editor out there who thought that same as I did.
++++++
A Brazilian court has declared the results of 11 Brazilian football matches void because of match-fixing and ordered them to be replayed. The Supreme Court of Sport Justice of Brazil made the ruling after a referee admitted influencing match results for his own benefit in an illegal betting scandal.
Never mind the match-fixing allegations. You have to admire a country that has its own "Supreme Court of Sport Justice". I can just envision that in Britain. Kate Hoey, Ron Manager and Alex Ferguson handing out rulings on whether it was really a dive, or whether any of Chelsea's victories should be disallowed on the grounds that they were too clinical.
