Well, after an irritating loss yesterday (the peak of which was when my flopped set of jacks over a set of 10s conspired to lose to four 10s -- the famed Hold 'em one-outer), things managed to go from bad to worse today. At one point, through what was clearly severe carelessness, I found myself 100 big bets down — unusual even by my own definitions.

I got it back to 60 big bets down, which almost felt like victory. Previously I had been running particularly well on Empire, slowly knocking off this bonus. I didn't mention it (loudly) on the web, but it still turned bad. See, it can happen, even if you keep quiet about it. Anyway, with about 1600 hands still needing to be played before the end of the month (3,000 out of the way), and despite the horrific run of the past couple of days, I'm still averaging 1.4 big bets per hundred at the site. As they say in the trade, if they had offered me that at the start, I would have bitten off their hand.

++++

I had a day's holiday today and have another on Monday as I prepare for my own personal "M" Day; the new newsletter launches on Wednesday. So, what did my day off consist of? Sorting out the fact that the newsletter didn't go out properly. Sorting out a subscription problem with a US law firm (the bastards haven't paid - "lost invoice" indeed), had an e-mail discussion with the e-production guy about databases, and had another e-mail discussion with my boss (who is also on holiday) about the launch. A typical day off, really. I guess that it comes with the territory, and it doesn't bother me. Better to be interested in your work than be a nine-to-fiver.

I guess that I am now more a "four to twelver". I still haven't worked out what my sleep pattern is going to be, how the newsletter is going to be put together, what my "work sequence" for the day is going to be. The good thing about it is that I have a kind of carte blanche.

The bastards also wanted me to go on the World Service business report to talk about specie insurance (the banknote raid). I kyboshed that one straight away. Buggered if I'm going to let some journalist ask me a question that I don't know the answer to.
