I managed to develop a full-blown cold yesterday, which puts the kybosh on any serious poker playing for a day or two. I learnt in Vegas that, even if you think that you are playing okay, hitting the tables when you are ill is a short trip to penury.
I was delighted to see that Crash won best picture at the Oscars. I look forward to seeing it again.
I looked in the medicine cabinet and noticed that I still had some of the anti-cold stuff which I bought in Vegas in December. These tablets are brilliant, but I am fairly sure that you can't buy them over the counter in the UK, because they contain pseudo-ephedrine. Ephedrine was, it so happens, the drug I seriously abused in the late 1970s when I was playing some marathon poker sessions. A guy with asthma at Universoty got the stuff in neat (i.e., in the sense of undiluted, not in the sense of 'cool") tablet form on prescription and made a nice profit selling them to the serious poker players in the vicinity. Well, he would have made a nice profit, if he hadn't been such a poor poker player.
Next time I go to Vegas I may buy the stuff in bulk from that chemists next to where the Boardwalk used to be -- if it hasn't been knocked down or blown up by then.
