On the plus side...
Mar. 9th, 2010 08:12 pmI try not to post any more when I'm down; hell, I try not to be down. The meditation definitely helps -- at least I am getting some proper sleep as a result. But I've still been on a lower end of the slope since last Friday; mainly triggered, I think, by the DHL/Citibank stress.
We had a power failure at work on Monday at 9.00am, so I've worked from home for two days because EDF has said that what power supply that it could get to the building (indeed much of EC2A) was not guaranteed to be maintained.
Thursday to Monday was a good "tear" at Poker, up $1400. It did little to brighten my sombre feeling. Today was a disaster, down $820, including what we might call a "1-in-200-hour event" (a known number to people in the reinsurance world, except such events seem to come along once every five years or so for the reinsurers). In my case, it was three and a half buy-ins down within an hour. With a standard deviation of slightly less than a single buy-in, and with an expected profit of an eight of a buy-in, a 3.5 buy-in drop is unusual indeed.
If there's a plus to come out of it, I wasn't that bothered. So if I can take $700 hits with calmness, that's good.
However, later in the day, with things still not going right, I started to feel a bit tilty, reaching that stage of "I know he's outdrawn me and I've been unlucky, so I'm going to put all of my money in to prove how unlucky I am". Not wise.
More on the plus side, while DHL remains unmitigated shit and I hope all who sail in her die a horrible and painful death, Home Delivery Network came good and delivered after 6pm a move of such radicalitty that I can't imagine those cunts at DHL ever thinking of it. So, HDN +1, DHL, Nil. Perhaps DHL should merge with Cantor Index. That really would be a marriage made in heaven.
In addition, Amazon emailed to say that the money for the shelving that never arrived would be recredited to my account.
Nothing back from Pacific on the missing $2,000 cheque, but, hey, you can't have everything. Sometimes these things take months to sort out.
I'm getting thoroughly fed up with Citibank to be honest, and I may just run the account down to zero and start functionming in Sterling as my base account. It will require a big change in bookkeeping, but, hell, if you let bookkeeping dictate how you run your real life, that's the tail wagging the dog. I enjoy the mental comfort of playing and thinking in dollars, but if that is that important to me, I can just "pretend" that sterling accounts are in dollars. Pokerstars now lets you move your base account to sterling.
++++++++++
My left thumb joint continues to cause problems -- presumably a tendonitis-related condition that anti-inflammatories would get rid of if only I could be bothered to go to the doctor. In fact I've been lethargic about everything -- sure depressive signs. The bedroom remains half-decorated since Christmas. The spare bedroom is a cluttered mess. My DVDs need labelling and my DVD hard drive is filling up, waiting for stuff to be put onto DVDs. In other words, I am falling behind.
