One of the hardest parts of NL Cash is judging what to do on the river. Many players overestimate the importance of becoming good at this, because the amounts involved are relatively large. However, since the events concerned happen rarely (one of the reasons that it's a hard part of the game) their "per hand" importance is probably less than your pre-flop and flop decisions.

But, these days, you need whatever edge you can get.

A bit of merging of ranges here. I'm prepared to raise this hand against some players, fold it against others, and occasionally flat-call it for balance. Villain is at the looseish-passive end of the spectrum. Not incompetent by any means, but his preflop limps probably make the difference between him being a winner and a loser

Ninnghizidda folds
WorthPowers checks

** Dealing Flop ** [ J◊;, 5♡;, K♡; ]
WorthPowers checks

Hero bets [$4 USD]

I'm usually betting a draw in this kind of situation.

WorthPowers folds
Villain calls [$4 USD]

** Dealing Turn ** [ A♣; ]

Whoop whoop. Makes the straight.

Villain checks
Hero bets [$14.25 USD]
Villain calls [$14.25 USD]

** Dealing River ** [ 7♡; ]

Not so whoop whoop. Flush draw very much in opponent's range.

Villain checks

Hero bets [$25 USD]

This would be one of those classic hands on TV where the commentator would say "he really ought to check behind here"

Villain is all-In [$229.84 USD]

So it goes.

Hero folds
Villain does not show cards.
Villain wins $295.34 USD

$200 USD NL Texas Hold'em -

this time round villain is looser and laggier. But I think he is a weak example of the genre.

I think that I am in front, but raising here achieves nothing.

** Dealing Turn ** [ 6♠ ]
villain2 bets [$15 USD]
Hero raises [$36 USD]

So why raise the turn? For a start, I'm happier now to take down the pot, but I'm also raising for value. I think opponent will flat-call me with any pair 7s or better.

villain2 calls [$21 USD]
** Dealing River ** [ A♣; ]
villain2 checks

This is a great card for me, as it makes it much more likely from opponent's point of view that I am either bluffing or in with any kind of pair. I'm willing to risk more money here and to call if he check-raises me.

Hero bets [$40 USD]
villain2 calls [$40 USD]
Hero shows [ Q♠, Q♣; ]a full house, Aces full of Queens.
villain2 doesn't show [ J♡;, 6♡; ]a full house, Aces full of Sixes.
Hero wins $175 USD from the main pot with a full house, Aces full of Queens.
