En France Quatre

Hold 'em is everywhere now. The Casino Ruhr offers games, undoubtedly raked at a usurious rate, from 3pm every day. This did not surprise me, but it did surprise me to see the casino at Beaulieu-sur-mer offering Hold'em. Indeed, I assumed it was probably just a casino game. After all, when the BBC continually refers to the prize money in a Hold 'em tournament as the "jackpot", one would hardly expect advertising accuracy from a penny ante casino.
But, no, when I logged into Pokerstars, it spotted that I was in France, and invited me to play in the qualifiers for EPT France, the first leg of which is, yes, in Beaulieu-sur-mer! It's obviously a link-up with a particular chain.
When I was getting back on the bus at Port St Jean, two women who looked distinctly like hookers were getting off, heading for an evening's work, I guess. Port Jean and Beaulieu-sur-mer must be good areas for them.
Thunder and lightning and a hailstorm today, before the weather cleared at 3pm, leaving a sunny late afternoon. Brilliant.
I was going to try to get a sunset picture from the Chateau (the hill in the centre of Nice where the first settlement was built as Nikea in Greek times -- there is, of course, no chateau, that having been destroyed many centuries ago). However, the bastards close it at 7pm. I actually saw some tourists who were locked in. Since the gate they could not get out of was at the bottom of the hill, that meant they had another 500 or so steps to climb back up again, to see if they could find someone to let them out. Harsh.
So, not much opportunity for interesting photography today, I fear.

A map of the old town. The square at the top is Place Garibaldi. If you take the south-west exit, and then turn second-left, bearing directly south, then my apartment is about 50 yards down on your right.
About fifty yards past that is...

...this church, which calls the faithful to prayer at 7am every morning. No chance of sleeping through it, but it's no bother. Not like seagulls, or cocks crowing.

A view of the church from the south, by day.

One of several attempts to get a perfect "sunset on the beach" picture, all of which failed.

I used my hand as a sun shade onthis one, and cropped out the top shadow.
