The Las Vegas Las Vegas poker page (http://www.lasvegasvegas.com/pokerblog/) has a link through to a review of the MGM card room by "Sherry" (http://www.letspoker.com/WSOPLiveBlog/?p=73). This extensive review, very good in its way, with photographs and the like, mentions just about everything you could want to know about the card room except the rake.

What's even more baffling is that the MGM has the best rake on the strip, so that if you played just $4-$8 you would probably pay $2 to $3 less an hour to play there. Throw in the dollar an hour that you get from your player's card, and you are approaching minimum wage. So even if the review was just publicity fluff, you would imagine that it would be mentioned.

I can only conclude that even players who think a lot about where they play, just don't think about how much it is costing them to play there. Why else would Bally's (rake 10% up to $40) be proportionately as crowded as the MGM $4-$8 games (rake at something like $10, $20, $50, $90)?

Although seating, table quality, games spread, etc, are important, surely any poker room reviewer should automatically include (a) the rake (b) the comps and (c) the available poker rate?

But, apparently not.

Yes I often laugh at those American race track sites that take $10 rake from the pot BEFORE THE FLOP in a holdem game with blinds of 5/10. And the game is always going.
Thanks most definately go to online poker.
