Idly listening to Radio Five Live while I read the biog of Stu Ungar this afternoon, I heard the commentator say "And Morientes heads down from Gerrards Cross". Hmm, I thought, that's a long way away from Liverpool. It was a few seconds before I clicked what Alan Green had actually said.

Have you ever heard the "which keeper has the longest throw" one ? At the time, QPR keeper Chris Day got a mention for being able to throw it to [Clarke] Carlisle. But the winner was the Ipswich keeper who could throw it to [Mark] Venus.

Apropos of nothing, on TalkSport I was listening to the reports at half time. Their man at Stamford Bridge concluded his summary with "Chelsea 2 Blackburn 2 - and that continues the record of all the goals Chelsea have conceded this season being in the first half". Well yes. It would have done, don't you think ?

Andy.

No-one has ever confirmed it to me, nor have I seen it anywhere on the internet, but i'm convinced that when I listened to the Germany/England radio commentary a few years ago, in his not-in-any-way-biased-toward-anything-emanating-from-Anfield manner, he greeted the fifth England goal with the immortal

"That's Germany One, Liverpool FIVE".

He seemed to be the only one who cared about the club allegiances of the players concerned.
