Well, would you adam and eve it? Just after Party tells me that my 35,000-odd player points have expired (oh, the shame,! losing something which it's impossible to spend!) I log in to pull out the $500 I foolishly deposited a few weeks ago in an attempt to get a bonus. And Party informs me that I now qualify for a $100 bonus if I deposit before November 25!

These marketing people are fools! Do they assume that people really have no memory whatsoever? That, every time something is offered, it is forgotten a week later?

So, the tactic is clearly to not play the site for a month, or 90 days, or whatever. Wait for your points to expire, and then to log in for your deposit bonus.

I've been meaning to post this picture for some time, but I never got around to scanning it (I am not very good at scanning stuff into web pages. The pictures never come out the right size...)

People have commented many times on Phil Jopke Hellmuth's feet first typing in chat boxes, but I can now reveal his handwriting. Graphologists eat your heart out. Guess the age of this writer...

I also got stripped of my Party points this week. Only about 18,000 mind. I felt a little aggrieved until I remembered that they have never had any use. So I jus logged on to find the same bonus offer presented. Since I've been datamining like nobody's business of late, a little bonus hunting was just the incentive I needed. Good old Party.

So that's what a nine-times World Champion of Poker writes like. World Series of Penmanship? I don't think so.

They're not worthless: you can enter the 100k freeroll(s) for 20,000 points, there was one last week.

Yes, the Ultimate points can be used for the $5 tournaments. I've worked out that the turbo tournaments are probably the best use for them.

I had a vague notion that there were freerolls on Party, but I couldn't be bothered to search them out, and they weren't heavily promoted (well, not to me). Since my hourly rate on Party was a little over $11 an hour this year, before I started boycotting it, I would need quite a healthy EV from the freeroll tourney.

Therefore a lot depended on the time consumed playing the freerolls. If the EV was about $5, I had better things to do with my time (I've dumped the Betfair 50 euro added tourneys for that self-same reason) and one could, in some kind of opportunity cost metaphysical sense, call them "worthless". However, my point was that you couldn't buy anything worthwhile with them. I suppose a freeroll qualifies as a "spend". I should have been more pedantic.

Of course, if my EV was $100, then I would have played, but, knowing Party, I can't imagine 20,000 points offering that kind of value.

Paradise and Empire have freerolls without any requirements (that must be value at tumbleweed Empire!) but I don't bother seeking those out either.

And, the added question is (to which I genuinely don't know the answer), would I have received the deposit promotion if I had been playing on Party? Possibly, but I really don't know.

I'm trying to avoid tournaments for the rest of this month. They do my limit game no good at all.

I think the 20k points worked out at around $50. I'm not saying you play for them, but if they're just sitting there... Their points system is one of their real fuck ups imo, since it offers so little incentive to play. You've got to admire party's tenacity to go at every angle; I noticed they were offering sats for the 20k points buy in, one of them was a 1k buy-in with a place in the 100k freeroll for every 30 players, a nice 50% rake. But on bonus points! Gee.

As I've said before it makes you wonder what angles they shoot that you can't see.

What are those hieroglyphs after the signature?

My first thought was that it was some kind of drawing, because as we know, donkeys alwasy draw.

Pete,
you mean you never thought about buying 80 Beanie hats and selling them on e-bay? Maybe a halter top or two?
Shame on you :-)

Never got into e-bay. Paypal screwed me on my account shortly after e-bay bought it (dollar account barred, trades with online poker rooms barred). I couldn't be bothered to set up a new UK-based Paypal account, and, given the potential for fraud which seems to exist on e-bay, I would need a good motivation to set up an e-bay account.

That said, 80 beanie hats looks a pretty good reason. Wish I'd thought of that before. :-)
