Clearly this machine does not want me to get in any kind of quarterly update here. Started it at 5.55. Kept cocking up the table and getting an unhelpful "invalid mark-up" reference that could have been anywhere in rather long code. Gave up at 6.20 because I was late for the train. Just started working on autosaved draft. Cocked it up again. Lost tinypic reference to chart. Got annoyed.

Not much else to report, either. I'm getting more cagey about sites and things because I suspect that many of the silent visitors are just looking for soft games. And if they don't contribute back, I don't see why I should make life easy for them. Times seem to becoming tougher on Party, and if I find any good games, I'm minded to keep them to myself.

I did come across another total wanker from Finland yesterday though. What is it about me with Scandinavian opponents? Do I just get unlucky and find the dicks? Or do I just happen to remember them if they are Scandinavian?

It seems to be the same with Georgians (the US kind, not the ex-Russian kind). However, New Yorkers and Californians I get along fine with. Odd.

I did catch Sean Penn in woody Allen's Sweet & Lowdown at the weekend. The more I see of Penn the more I admire his talent. He seems to have quietly put together a varied body of work without gaining the stature that de Niro did a couple of decades earlier. He doesn't go for the big budget numbers and he doesn't seem restricted to just one director.

FX this morning: $1.7260. Birks position, up 140 points. Yay.

++++++++++++

And here follows the bloody table, after an hour of de-bloody-bugging.

And what is there to learn from this, apart from the fact that producing tables in Livejournal that do not look like total crap is bloody hard work?

Well, as I said in my previous post — not that much.

In my three-tabling exploits I won $27 from 75-odd sessions, although this does not include bonuses generated. Since most of my three-tabling was at $2-$ and at $1-$2, the results for these stakes are somewhat lower (in terms of hourly rate) than they should be. However, $1-$2 is clearly not worthwhile and I shall try to get three tables at $2-$4 on Ultimate. If there aren’t three tables then I shall make do with two tables.

Although the figures for $5-$10 look good, these are skewed by a very good couple of hours on Virgin that could have occurred at $4-$8 or $3-$6 (where the figures don’t look so good!).

Notice that the bonus and rakeback money comes to nearly 50% of the profit. This is not a good thing. But it's an indication of how any limit player is burning cash if he (or she) does not take advantage of the bonuses.

Now here's the table for the first three months.

Not much comment to make on that, either, except perhaps to say that what might look at first glance to be a relatively smooth path contains some gut-wrenching shifts (and that's not to mention the variations within single sessions, where a $500 shift can end up as a three bucks win or loss and look as if nothing has happened!)

GA, NY and CA: is it a red-state, blue-state thing?

The Sean Penn thing happened to roll on to my telly as well - I was similarly impressed by the performance (what I saw of his early work didn't really suggest how good he was going to be) although I'm far too much of a philistine to have much patience for Woody's recent masterpieces. I switched after half and hour or so to find something less taxing. Of course, I have absolutely no idea what it was that I found.

And anyway, there was no way he was really playing that guitar....

If by red-state and blue-state you mean Democrat and Republican, probably not. Most of the Americans I meet outside of poker (and probably withinside of poker as well) are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans; not through any appreciation of George W Bush, but simply because they tend to be businessmen rather than lawyers.

However, if you are talking about the "good southern hospitality" thing, then you might be closer to the mark. I'm from London. I don't want to be your friend. I just want you to give me a room. This attitude works find in Metro-US, but seeems a bit stand-offish to our friends not in the north.

Definitely recommend avoiding Match Point - a film with little or no point (match or otherwise). It just follows the lives of a few maladjusted people through their odd and irrelevant sex lives. Then stops. No wit, no insight - just the thought of thing that Nora Ephron might have knocked out in her sleep.
