Fine Quotes
Jun. 14th, 2006 08:17 amFirst real gem of the World Cup Commentators' "Donkey prize" came up in the France Switzerland game (who was commentating?).
If you remember the background, France had a poor start to the 2004 European finals and the team was slated in the press. After yesterday's abysmal performance, about half way through the second half the commentator said something like:
"And you can almost read tomorrow's French headlines now. (pause).
It's deja vu. (longer pause, followed by moment of sudden realisation).
Which is, of course, French."
Marvellous.
++++++++
Highlight of Wednesday's commentaries:
"And if the name of Sammy Al Jabeer seems familiar to you, that would be because he had a five-month spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers six years ago."
Subtext: But only if you're a complete anorak like me.
