The plasterman cometh
Jun. 20th, 2005 05:15 pmWell, at least he has promised to cometh, at 7am tomorrow. We shall see.
That will mean getting up at about 5.30 (oh, I forgot, I always get up at 5.30) to clear out the computers, the desk, and the curtains. One small problem with the curtain and curtain rails. I need the stepladder to reach them. But the stepladder is underneath the books which is underneath the broom which is.... holding up the ceiling. It's like one of those puzzles you get given on these training weekends. You have four pieces of wood, 12ft, 10ft, 8ft and 2ft long. You need to cross a chasm 150ft wide. what do you do?
Find a narrower crossing, of course. Or, even better, use your Amex frequent player points to hire a helicopter.
As if aware that it was about to be thrown away, or at least despatched to another room for a day or two, it looks like my old 17in CRT monitor has given up the ghost with perfect timing. The blue tint suddenly disappeared, a sure sign of a dying cathode. I've never had a computer monitor die on me before through sheer old age. It's quite touching.
Which brings me again to the choice of "replace or new computer?" Does anyone know if Dell offers dual monitor options? It's not there in the online stuff, but surely one simple dual monitor card shouldn't be a problem (or that unusual a request)?
75 minutes double-tabling at $5-$10 for $16 profit. That this is only just under my "expected" rate of return doesn't stop it from giving one a feeling of wasting 45 minutes.
