The coffee table and lamp table (or whatever you call that kind of table) arrived this morning. Net result, a crowded house. I have two too many tables and enough cardboard and polystyrene to fill a skip. Getting rid of the boxes in which stuff comes is almost a full-time job in London. The dustmen refuse to take away anything that is not reduced to a size the rough equivalent of a postage stamp, while telephoning for the "special" refuse collectors (I guess they have to pass an exam or something, because that costs £15) requires complex arrangements on when you are going to leave whatever it is you want taken away outside the house.

I was casually throwing away $90 on Party a few minutes ago when I thought to myself, "it's a long time since I had Aces". So I checked. And, well, fuck me, it is a long time. It's 1,260 hands on Party, 301 hands on Pokerstars, and about 180 hands on Virgin. And I haven't got 'em yet, so this record run of 1,750-odd could well break 2,000.

I once went 150 hands on Paradise without winning a pot of any sort, but I'm pretty sure that this is a record for me without getting Aces.

And the irony of it? I'm up over this set of 1,750-odd hands. Not just up, but well-stonking up. Some of this, it must be admitted, is due to a 30-hand run last night on Virgin's $5-$10 that not only wiped out the deficit I had there, but also contributed more than half yesterday's $300 profit. I guess that if you never get Aces you can never get them cracked.

But I'd love to see what one of the paranoid androids on 2+2 would make of that kind of run. Online poker is rigged, cash-out curse, anything you care to name.

If I were so inclined, I could probably work out how frequently you are likely to hit a run of 1,750 hands without Aces, but I reckon that, if I have averaged 6,000 hands a month for five years, it must have been due. Entertaining stuff.
