One of the penalties of making a mistake at NL is that you can get stacked off. Luckily the $100 NL looked abysmal this afternoon, so I played a couple of hours of $50NL.

Equally luckily, I didn't have a full stack.

But, well, you have to see the funny side.

If I had any handle on the raiser here, I might have reraised, but I knew nothing about him. So I decided to play the 10s as a middle pair rather than as a big pair. As a default range, I'd put the guy on AK, AQ, AJs, any pair 8s or better.

*** FLOP *** [H9 HJ D2]

My plan was to mini-raise quickly if opponent bet a smallish continuation on any board that didn't contain an ace or a king. The above board makes me think that I'm in front of more than 50% of his range.

Villain: Bet $3.00
Hero: All in $32.79

Whoops. Went to mini-raise just a bit too fast. On No IQ, the all-in button is a little bit too big!

There was now quite a long pause. Clearly if the guy has AK he'll lay down here, and I might even get him to lay down an overpair. As you can see from the above, the guy has flopped second set. Just my luck :-)

Villain: Call $29.79

Bollocks.

Long-term acquaintances of mine will be aware that one of the seasonings to which I am somewhat addicted is Maggi. This is ubiquitous in Switzerland and widely available in Germany. However, for me to buy it in London requires a trip to the Asian specialty shops in Lewisham, and they only sell the really small bottles. I believe that Sainsbury's used to sell the small bottles as well, but I never use Sainsbury's.

A couple of years ago I discovered that the Chinese supermarket in Lisle Street sold the large bottles for a fiver -- still twice as much as it costs in Hamburg, but about half the price, ounce for ounce, that I was paying for the small bottle.
