ML666: Raise to $56.00
I initially felt that this raise made no sense, and if he had me marked as a weak-tight player, it doesn’t. However, what range has he put me on, and what range am I likely to have? The mini-raise only really makes sense if I have very few outs.

This hand is a good example of how experience at other games (in this case, PLO) can help in NLHE. It’s an unusual situation for NLHE, but I was actually planning for the scenario from the flop.

“Freeroll?” says Birks, turning over the flush draw, thinking of some of the more obscure wild-card variants that he used to play, where you never played anything but the nuts and you folded the nuts without redraws.

Here’s one of the hands from today. Nothing to learn from this apart from the fact that every other player at the table would probably have folded this. I strongly suspect that he knew I was capable of making this play without the set, but TT is still very thin to call to go all-in on the turn. I just have to console myself with winning lots of Sklansky dollars.

So, after 10 days of modest ups and downs, I’ve had three days of a bad down, a good up, and a bad down again. I started playing poorly after this, but dragged myself back from $350 down to $200 down, only to lose $120 on my last round at my last table, where I’d nearly declined to play that round. A bit of a sickener. (I flopped top set, but I still deliberately gave opponent implied odds on the grounds that he might try an all-in pot-sized steal on the river if he missed. This was a stupid assumption, given the guy’s stats.
It's also a kind of pisser wasting three hours on a Saturday afternoon to lose 3 buy-ins, when you have lots of other things that need doing. All very well saying that the more hours you play, the more that you win, but it doesn't always seem to work that way.
