Not much of an update
Dec. 20th, 2011 02:24 pmI've slowly been getting better. On Friday I made another trip to the doctor. He gave me some more antibiotics, although he told me that I was actually suffering from a virus, so the antibiotics would only keep any bacterial infection at bay. The virus would just have to heal itself.
And, it seems to be so doing. I made it to the gym yesterday (with PT Nick) and today (on my own), and I was in far better shape than I was last week. Maybe by the end of January I will be back to where I was in the middle of November. Sigh. But, at least I'm not demotivated now, and that's half the battle.
++++++
I went long USD vs CAD (Canadian dollar) and AUD (Australian dollar) at the beginning of the week. Not much action so far -- it looks as if everything is winding down for Christmas and we won't see a euro-crisis before the new year. I'm looking to get back in short euro at $1.3170. My short CAD and AUD positions are basically based on my feeling that 2012 will be the beginning of the Great Depression, and that his will be bad for so-called commodity currencies, of which AUD and CAD are the most pre-eminent.
When you look back to where $/CAD and $/AUD were a decade ago, you can't help but feel that, long-term, these two currencies have more downside than upside. Australia, in particular seems to have had all non-commodity production business decimated by its strong currency -- making it far more vulnerable than it was to a commodity downturn.
+++++
Once again I'm still playing online, but playing less. The slow progress on FPPs can get a bit frustrating -- but that's what Pokerstars wants, of course. The imporant thing is to focus on winning in open play -- and think of the FPPs and VPPs as happy extras.
++++++
I've started to watch the Japanese film "Eureka" (2000), the latest movie supplied by Lovefilm. I think that this could require a bit of effort, but I suspect that it will be worth it.
I've a number of films unwatched, including ones bought in the stores, but over Christmas I'm thinking of rewatching all of Tarkovsky. I haven't watched Andrei Rublev for a couple of years, and that film now sits with Stalker as my pair of favourites ("Mirror" used to be my favourite). And "Solaris" might bear another viewing.
