A couple of Omaha hands. There was no $50 max buy-in, so I was forced to swim with the (baby) sharks at $100 max buy-in. To extend the watery metaphor, we see one hand where I was all at sea and one where I took a gamble that paid off.

Birks: As 7d Ah Qh

ctm folds. rcsixthman calls. jdaltongang folds. WHY ME 50 folds. _DesTinY_ folds. Stupidbet calls. WhoWants2Mess calls. Birks raises to $6.50. PurdueRick calls. Lumbehund folds. rcsixthman
folds. Stupidbet folds. WhoWants2Mess folds.

I seriously thought about flat-calling here, solely because of the problem that subsequently arose.

Flop Ts 2c Qc

PurdueRick checks. Birks checks.

Yep, complete bottle job. I know it. Awful play.

Turn (board: Ts 2c Qc 6d):

PurdueRick bets $17. Birks folds. PurdueRick is returned $17 (uncalled).

Absolutely no excuses for any of this. I might as well have taken the money out of my pocket and given it to the man.

And now for the one that paid off: Once again I am on the button.

jdaltongang is at seat 0 with $164.50.

rcsixthman is at seat 9 with $27.40.
The button is at seat 5.

PurdueRick posts the small blind of $.50.
ctm posts the big blind of $1.

Birks: 6c 9h 6s Ks

Pre-flop:

rcsixthman calls. jdaltongang calls. _DesTinY_ folds. Stupidbet calls. GregBue calls. Birks
calls. PurdueRick calls. ctm checks.

Flop 2c 6h 7h

Okay, a set of sixes. Once again I ignore worries about losing my market on the turn. ctm is a noted aggressive player, and I have a plan.

PurdueRick checks. ctm bets $7. rcsixthman folds. jdaltongang folds. Stupidbet folds. GregBue folds.
Birks calls. PurdueRick calls.

Turn 2c 6h 7h Ad

PurdueRick checks. ctm bets $28. Birks goes all-in for $74.50. PurdueRick folds. ctm folds.
Birks is returned $46.50 (uncalled).

$3 is raked from a pot of $84.
Birks wins $81.

The thing that was nice about this was that Purdue said he was loath to fold as he had a straight flush draw. I have no idea what ctm had, but, since he didn't raise pre-flop, I knew that it wasn't AA. But he didn't know that I didn't have AA. I don't think that I can get 77 to lay down, but I can get rid of any drawing hands, because they no longer have any implied odds for a river bet. I suspect that ctm had a set of twos or two pair Aces, with the former being my favourite.

Is there an argument for me flat-calling here? Possibly. but I don't think so. I'm relying on Purdue (and/or ctm) missing their draw and then one of them betting a bluff or calling with a lower set. No, I think that the raise all-in is correct. And it brings the $100 buy-in deficit down to less than $200. Woo hoo.

Amazed to see you calling with 669K!!! This Omaha is messing with your head Pete, you'll never be able to go back to limit holdem if you keep playing like this. :)

(PS: I still have your CDs, need advice on how to return em)

Hi Alex,

In PLO it's harder to find a hand that I won't call with on the button with no raisers and a couple of conservative players in the blinds! By contrast, I have happily ditched hands like QQJ8 under the gun (or better) if I am fairly confident that there will be a raise behind me.

Vis-a-vis the DVD stuff; e-mail me when you are going to be in town and we can meet up.

Pete

Weak play post flop?

Pete, I'm not sure in that first hand that you were wrong to check after the flop. Your opponent probably had you down as AA, if he's sitting on a set, or 2pr, he may be looking for the check raise, as I know I would be tempted to do on occasion (haven't studied your play style). A bet there may well get a re-raise that you may not get EV on, so maybe you were right.
I do qualify this in taht I sometimes have no idea what I'm doing in PLO either!
