Well, I'm off to Worcester tomorrow for a long weekend. The travel arrangements got a bit complicated. My plan to drive via central London was kyboshed by the "biggest street party this summer", which will be effectively closing off the centre of the city.

Then I heard that the M25 was as near as dammit shut and that there were roadworks on both the North and South Circular.

I calculated that it would actually be quicker for me to get a eurostar to Paris, then fly to Birnmingham, where I could pick up a hire car and pop down to Worcester. So I booked my tickets.

Well, that all went tits up when the fire broke out in the tunnel yesterday afternoon. Fortunately I was made aware of the matter, so I quickly booked a cheap flight via XL Airways. I paid with my Switch card, just to avoid the credit card penalty.

I was, as you might imagine, quite disappointed to hear this morning that XL had gone bust and that my flight would not be taking off tomorrow morning. But, well done British Airways! At the last minute they said that, if I leave straight away, they could get me on an indirect flight to Paris. Top ho!

It leaves from Heathrow to Paris (via Houston) in four hours. I can't see that anything else could possibly go wrong, so I expect to be in Worcester by tomorrow evening.

And the next time we hear from you, you'll be in Stockholm and your luggage in Vienna. So it goes.

We were invited to join another family for a little trip to Olot today, but Ana didn't fancy two or three hours in the car each way, so we stayed put.

Good luck,
Jonathan

If you avoid luggage problems at terminal five, it's pretty much 100% risk free. Have a nice trip.

Recommend you pay for a stand-by with Alitalia, just in case BA don't come through for you.

Trip all went v well, thanks. London to Pershore is no more than 2.75 hours (and this is from Lewisham, totally on the wrong side of London) if things go well. If they go wrong, it can be 3.75 hours. And once, when I unwisely went via the M4, it was 4.75. I was a bit grumpy at that one...

The Avon at Evesham was high, but there was less flooding than I anticipated. Dinner was at the Indian in Pershore (nice food, if a bit inefficient in the service department) and for lunch on Monday I had fish n chips in a pub resturant. YUM!

And Jan cooked goose for the Sunday, with a chocco cake for dessert (and a lemon tart). All brilliant. It's the gym this week though....
