I think that I set the camera to fluorescent light (which, as you hint, has a higher blue/white balance anyway), and that was the result. The more "natural" picture uses the Pentax AWB mode, whereby you put the setting on anything other than Auto-Pict, press the function button, move down to AWB and then press the "Adjust" option. You then take a "test" picture and it shows you the result. I'm not sure if there are further adjusting options after that (must look it up) because I just press "OK" and then take the picture.
This AWB mode is MUCH better for night pictures, because it reduces the yellow/red balance considerably.
