Some limit hands
Nov. 18th, 2005 07:15 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I have stepped back up to $5-$10. No real reason. I just think you have to play where you feel comfortable. And I fel comfortable at $5-$10 this week. Next week, I might not. Weird.
Two hands. One is just to show that I don’t always lay down top pair (only when I know that it’s no good :=))

There is a minor argument for me raising here. Suited, it’s definitely a raise. At higher levels or lower levels than 2/4 to 5/10 I think that a call is right, but in this range of stakes, a raise can work well. Whatever, I’m not “in the zone”, so I take the less adventurous route
*** FLOP *** [7d Qd 9c]
Top pair for me, no flush draw, not much of a straight option. I’m not in good shape here except for the fact that I have position. Now, never let it be said that position is irrelevant in limit!

A late bet from smlvlspram doesn’t mean much more than he has two cards. He’s loose, aggressive, has been up for 18 hours and might well have tosh like QJ or T9. My major worry is the call from loadawood.

Ugh. Well, I’m not betting for value.

patrizi: bets $10

I can’t fold here. Patrizi is a chaser and there’s a ream of hands he could have besides two diamonds. He’s also quite incompetent enough to bet for desperation. I’m getting 12-to-1 on the call.
*** SHOW DOWN ***
patrizi: shows [Kc Tc] (high card King)
Birks: shows [Kh Qs] (a pair of Queens)
Birks collected $131 from pot
++++++++++++++
I make no comment on the following hand apart from the fact that it shows how incomprehensible the game can be. I made the right decision to fold what looks like a nice hand, but not for the right reasons. This is an example where a fold comes from a range of possibilities that you add together.

Any explanation? Well, I could say “I had a bad feeling”. But really it was a combination of factors. Loadawood’s raise looks horrible to me. Possibly a set of fives or twos, maybe a set of queens (although I would expect him either to reraise with this pre-flop or flat-call it on the flop). I don’t reckon I’ll be getting away for two bets here, (and I am proved right on that one). Malepilot is also dangerous. This is really not a hand that I want to be in multiway.
