Well, it's official, online poker blogging is dead.

At least, virtually every blog that I was visiting regularly 18 months ago is on the verge of death. There's two types of poker blog death; the one where the player quits poker, and the one where the blogger quits blogging. In some cases the pair coincide.

Whatever, Three-Bet, Chris Fargis, Big Dave D, and now Wintermute have effectively said that their active blogging days are either over, comatose or severely curtailed. Three of these four have lost their passion for poker (old hands together now, "we could see it coming !"). It seems clear that the serious enthusiasts from 1999 (Rounders, start of the Internet poker scene) and the less serious enthusiasts from 2003 (Moneymaker, start of the No Limit madness) are finally ready to move on to something else, leaving grizzled old hands such as me, BDD, the Youngster, and other pre-1999 players looking on, wondering how things will have changed when the dust settles and the passers-through have departed. One thing seems certain -- there will be fewer things to read.

Sadly, many of the other bloggers I used to enjoy have gone to PokerWorks, and there, for some reason, the appeal and desire to read their posts is diminished.

Dr Pauly remains, god bless 'im. You know that Pauly will carry on writing because the writing came before the poker. And he will probably carry on writing about gambling, because he's a good enough gambler not to go busto, but not a good enough gambler to be able to afford to quit the writing part.

My days are horribly full at the moment, and a return to the gym regime today served to fill this Friday up a bit more. It had to be done, and I took it very easy. The muscle tone vanishes "just like that" when you leave off visiting the guym for a few weeks, and then the fat starts creeping back. Bleeagh. Luckily I have a large number of 32 inch waist trousers that I like to be able to wear. And since my body seems insistent on deteriorating to a 34 inch waist at the first opportunity, it doesn't take long away from the gym before my waist starts telling me that I need to go back.

With the "poker clock" looking like it will change rather dramatically this year, I might be able to fit some training in on Saturday mornings.

Three reinsurers that went into business at the back-end of last year are coming to market soon. The companies that backed them will doubtless trouser a lot of money as a result, because there's a large amount of loose cash out there and much of it is following the holy grail of "non-correlation". Unfortunately, few of these investors realize that diversifying your risk is not a good move if you diversify into bad risks. And I fear that, if we have a hevy hurricane season, the fund managers who plunged into reinsurance companies in February will end up looking rather silly.

Fans of TV21 might be interested in a group called The Bats and their album "The Law Of Things". Originating in New Zealand, the group release that kind of guitar-based pop that one associates with Scotland.
