I fell asleep on the train going home last night. It's a long time since I've done that. Just woke up in time to scramble off the train, Homer Simpson-wise, with a "Coming through, coming through!" Then I slept through the radio alarm this morning. Almost unheard of.

Then, the rubbish bin wasn't emptied when I left the house (everybody else's on the street had been emptied), the coffee machine isn't working when I arrive at work, the migration of the e-mail accounts overnight to a new server has obviously failed (so I have no e-mails since 8.15 last night) and, generally, everything is not working. And then I have to plough through the humourless bullshit that is the current world. And I feel like being that Catherine Tate figure. "Talk to the hand, 'cos the face ain't listening".

And, misanthrope-wise, i feel it coming down to "I don't care!". The Youngster cares, and I admire it for him and the serious stuff that he puts in his blog. It implies some kind of moral awareness and a desire for change to make the world better. And I sit here and say "so what? Let the bastards kill themselves, let the world go to hell in a handcart, let the executives be corrupt (I recommend an analysis of the goings on at Sweden-based Skandia in the past few years if you want to see some real examples of corporate money-grabbing), let the politicians come out with nonsense like "never mmind what the insurance policy excludes, the insurers should pay up anyway" (not because they care, but because they know it is electroally astute), let the insurers hire the ex-head of FEMA as a lobbyist in Washington, let 'em all carry on and I can't be bothered to want to change it any more.

Talk the the hand, 'cos the face ain't listening.

You need a holiday guv. Just piss off for 7-10 days somewhere warm, armed with several books and no newspapers. Make sure you get no internet access and no hassles. London and life will still be a shithole when you get back though, so do something constructive/positive with some of your leisure time.

Trouble is, your hobbies are mainly inward-looking and your worklife is associating with financial services where nobody gives a shit, so long as their buck is safe. As a permanent thing you need to help some little (but metaphorical) old ladies across the road.

Damn - forgot to sign the above

I find I have to write the message first and then insert username and password - otherwise it rejects the password. Queer.

So where's the Youngster's blog? Or is it invitees only?

David has a blog on some tripod thingy which is quite possibly the worst software for blogs around. It's called "Sleepless In Fulham". I've got the address on one of my machines. I'll post it later. I seem utterly unable to type at the moment -- mistypes galore!
