Yesterday I felt a bit like Mr "Which Was Nice", the character played by Mark Williams in The Fast Show. First I pushed myself up to level 14 on the exercise bike, which virtually guarantees 190 calories in the 17 minutes timeframe. Then, when I got back, Rasaad who sits opposite me congratulated me on my "Editorial Award". What was this, I asked. Apparently the internal newspaper mentioned me in despatches. Which was nice.

Then, a couple of minutes later, an e-mail arrives from the big boss's PA asking me to come down to pick up my "prize". I wandered down, expecting something like £25 in gift vouchers, only to see a framed A4-sized piece of paper with "Editor of the Year" attached to it, plus an envelope containing five hundred quid's worth of John Lewis vouchers. Which was nice.

And then I came home and after a couple of hours' sleep I played for 75 minutes on a couple of Paradise tables at 2-4, working off the bonus, and rolled in for 50 big bets on one of the tables, while winning a little bit on the other. Now, 50 big bets in 75 minutes at a single table is unusual, to say the least. My stats came in at 22% VPIP, 16% raise, and 78% won money when I saw a flop. Yep, 78%. I think the won money at showdown figure was something like 88%. This is the limit poker equivalent of walking on water. Good cards that stand up or, if you miss the flop (but still bet), your opponents obligingly fold. All very "which was nice".

And I've caught up on lost sleep, or so it feels. Curiously, I had bad dreams last night, and ones which I have little difficulty remembering fragments of. One of them involved catching a Virgin flight to Vegas, losing my trousers, getting lost in a part of Heathrow that was "under reconstruction" (think "bowels of the Titanic", here) and being unable to find my way out in time to catch my plane. However, I woke up when the alarm went off (rather than at the normal 2.30am, still tired, but unable to get back to sleep), feeling physically and mentally refreshed. Which, yes, you've guessed it, was nice.

Almost as good as winning the Zine Poll?

Probably not, Editor of the Year doesn't pull in the groupies as well.

I'm not sure I'd ever want to meet a Zine Poll Winner groupie. Actually, I am sure. I'd rather eat glass.
